A PRE-SCHOOL is required to make improvements after inspectors found staff teaching and leadership to be 'ineffective'.
An Ofsted inspection carried out at St Francis Pre-school in South Ascot in November 14 found that it 'requires improvement', despite being rated as 'Outstanding' five years ago.
The registered manager of the pre-school was praised for taking appropriate action to support children who struggle with regulating their behaviour, particularly children with SEND.
However, the same level of high expectations of children's conduct is not consistent throughout the school.
The inspection found that St Francis Pre-School required improvement in all four areas: education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management.
At the previous inspection in 2014, the school was rated as Outstanding.
The report said: "Information about children's interests, stage of development and next steps in learning are not shared. This means that when a child's key person changes, some staff do not have the information they need to plan effectively for all children, to help support their learning further."
Children are not taught about learning right from wrong which shows that implementing 'good behaviour' is ineffective, according to the report.
The inspection did, however, praise staff for teaching children words to improve language skills.
It said: "Staff interact well with children and communicate effectively. They adapt their teaching to meet the needs of individual children, such as repeating words and phrases to help support children's communication and language skills." The school has been instructed to make further improvements, such as to provide more effective supervision, support, coaching and training for staff to improve the overall quality of the provision.
Health and well-being is promoted widely across the school, with children encouraged to make healthy food choices and participate in regular exercise through a weekly exercise programme.
St Francis Primary School which runs separately to the pre-school is rated as Outstanding by Ofsted and recently secured 155th place in the Sunday Times Top 500 English State Primary Schools 2019.
An earlier version of this online article was published with an image of the site which houses St Francis Pre-school. The site, however, is also home to St Francis Catholic Primary School and to avoid any confusion the image has now been removed. We would like to clarify, as stated in the article, that this Ofsted report only relates to the pre-school. We apologise for any confusion this may have caused.
