HERE’s our round-up of the most important planning applications decided in Reading this week.
‘Horrendous’ hotel plans refused
A 132-hotel proposed in the car park of the Crowne Plaza near Caversham Bridge has been refused planning permission.
Councillors said it was ‘horrendous’, ‘bog-standard’, and in an ‘extremely sensitive location’.

Fish and chip shop
A fish and chip shop can be built with a shared house after planners gave permission. The chippy will replace the disused Natwest bank on 76 Christchurch Road.
Above the chip shop will go a four-room shared house. Some councillors were concerned the food won’t help with the obesity crisis, but a majority voted to give permission.

Station Hill development
New details were published on the council’s website about the Station Hill development, between Friar Street and Garrard Street. Planners gave outline permission.
Scaffolding surrounding buildings due for demolition on the site collapsed in August, injuring three people.
New bike rack
A new bike rack got permission, with space for 10 bicycles. It will have a curved perspex cover.
The bike rack will be at a block of flats at Trafalgar Court, in Reading.
Loft conversion
Planners gave permission for a loft conversion on Eastern Avenue. The plans include roof lights, and converting a garage,
