ANGERED traders feel 'fed up' with the ongoing chaos on their road as car parking spaces are being blocked off due to Christmas lights being put up.

Brockenhurst Road in Ascot has been dug up in the past six months as part of its £7.4 million project to provide power to a new housing development under Crest Nicholson.

The project has led to a series of road closures, including Ascot High Street, London Road, Station Hill and Brockenhurst Road.

The Scottish and Southern Electricity Network (SSEN) project finally finished on Monday (December 9) however a new problem has started for the traders.

Joy Macdonnell, who runs Coco Boutique on Brockenhurst Road, raised concerns with how much passing trade she is losing because of the constant road works and closures.

She said: "So on Monday parking was closed off because the road was being dug up, then that finished and now it has been closed again because a Christmas light is being fitted on a lamp post.

"It's just ridiculous and I feel like it's just spiteful, I really felt like crying yesterday over it and today I feel angered, tired all sorts of emotions."

The business owner has said she has had no passing trade due to the road closure and now it is even harder as the car parking spaces have been blocked off due to Christmas lights going up.

It comes weeks after traders expressed their concerns with the six months of road works they have put up with.

Joy claims she has suffered low profits, reportedly alongside other businesses on the road, due to the lack of passing cars no longer stopping at the shop.

Ms Mcdonnell added: "I am thousands of pounds down and my Christmas trade is wiped.

"Christmas is meant to be the busiest time for us and I am fearing the worst."

An SSE spokesman said: “SSEN is pleased to report that it has have completed this phase of the works ahead of schedule and Brockenhurst Road has re-opened.

“High sided vehicles can now access Lyndhurst Road from both ends of Brockenhurst Road and we thank all road users for their patience during these works.”
