FOUR people have been found guilty after a group of men and women were 'violently' attacked in an alleyway after a night out in Wokingham.

The defendants, all men aged between 18 and 22 years old, were brought before Reading Crown Court after the 'unprovoked' attack left one man with a broken nose, and another with a cut to his eyebrow and bruising.

It happened about 3am on Denmark Street, Wokingham town centre, on March 31.

James Godfrey, 18, of Potter Crescent, Wokingham, pleaded guilty to one count of affray at court on December 2.

Ruari Lohan, 19, of Finchampstead Road, Wokingham, pleaded guilty to one count of affray and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm at the same hearing.

Following a seven-day trial, Liam Godfrey, 20, of Potter Crescent, Wokingham, and Charlie Burgess, 22, of Sadlers Court, Wokingham, were both found guilty by majority verdict of one count of affray at the same court on Tuesday, December 10.

Thames Valley Police described how the group launched the early-morning attack when Lohan head-butted one of the victims in the face and James Godfrey punched one of the other victims.

The force said soon after Burgess and Liam Godfrey then joined in the attack.

The victims were also all aged between 19 and 22, of which two men were left with injuries and the two female victims were not.

Investigating officer PC Dan Colyer of Wokingham Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "This was a violent incident which was completely unprovoked, leading to two men suffering injuries.

"They had been enjoying a night out and should have felt safe in the town.

"Thames Valley Police will never tolerate any incidents of disorder, violent and antisocial behaviour, and as a result of this case, four men have now been convicted."

The four men will be sentenced at the same court on Monday, February 10.
