PRIMARY school children in Lymm could see their Christmas play aired on TV as part of a national competition.

Oughtrington Community Primary entered its festive production into Virgin Media’s Christmas Stars competition for the chance to be crowned the UK's best primary school play.

It is the second time Oughtrington Community has been shortlisted for the competition but it is now hoping it can scoop the top prize- the chance to have its play professionally filmed and narrated by Stephen Mulhern and televised to four million Virgin TV customers.

The school's entry, A Winter's Tale, sees a host of woodland creatures getting ready for winter before a large snowfall traps a rabbit family in their burrow.

The animals then work together to free their friends.

The school said: "Our Christmas play is a winter play that children and adults of all faiths can enjoy.

"Our ethos of inclusion ensures that no child or adult is ever left out.

"Children and adults of all faiths work together as a team to create a show that upholds the values of kindness, generosity, compassion and respect.

"We can all relate to winter coming and the preparations that take place.

"Through the story of how woodland creatures prepare for winter and a celebration of the forthcoming snowfall, we explore how important it is to think and care about others who may be more vulnerable at this time of year."

Winners of the competition will also receive £5,000, 15 ukuleles, and a trip to watch School of Rock The Musical and take part in a masterclass.

The runner up will win £1,000 plus 15 ukuleles, while 22 regional finalists will win £100 and two ukuleles each.

David Bouchier, chief digital entertainment officer at Virgin Media, said: "A huge congratulations to Lymm’s Oughtrington Community Primary School for being named as a finalist in our magical Christmas Stars competition.

"Its production has the perfect ingredients for a feel-good festive play which could be enjoyed by millions of Virgin TV customers this Christmas.

"Stay tuned to find out who will be our winner- good luck to everyone at Oughtrington Community!"
