FITS OF laughter echoed round one Wokingham venue after a host of comedians performed for a charity event.

The event, titled ‘Woky Comedy Night’, left many viewers riddled with giggles earlier to year and raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

It was organised by the Wokingham Lions Club and raised £500 for Wokingham and District Association for the Elderly (WADE) as well as £1000 profit donated to the Ollie Young Foundation, which supports paediatric brain tumour research.

The proceeds were handed over to the charities at a club meeting on Monday.

Jackie Wilson, chairman of WADE, said: “WADE are so grateful for the continued support of the Wokingham Lions.

"Their recent donation of £500 will be used to enhance the activities and services we provide for our day centre clients, many of whom are suffering from various stages of dementia, or physical challenges.

“We try to give them activities to stimulate and gently challenge them. For the carers of some of our clients, the centre provides a much-needed respite, knowing that they can leave their loved ones in a safe, caring environment for the day.”

John Cleary, organiser of the event, added: “Our first comedy night in September was such a special night. The sell-out audience had a great night out, and many of them asked when the next show would be.

"I’m delighted to announce that we have secured four of the hottest acts on the comedy circuit for our next #Woky Comedy Night.

"With such terrific comedy talent and a cash bar, this promises to be another special night. All of the proceeds will go to support local charities."
