The SUNNINGHILL wheelbarrow race will be celebrating its 22nd anniversary on January 1, with entrants dressed in whacky fancy dress costumes whilst racing in a wheelbarrow.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Ascot, the race is held annually where members of the community gather and dress up in hilarious costumes to race on a course through the village raising money for charity.

Robin Pickup who organises the Wheelbarrow event is urging residents to sign up again and take part in the event.

He said: "Please enter again. With your help we can raise even more money to further expand our community work.

"We are looking forward to is as always and it will be a great day witnessing the fantastic community spirit we have in our area."

Breakfast will be served by St Michaels Primary School so entrants can enjoy pre-race bacon butties and coffee and tea while enjoying upbeat jazz by The David Jones Band.

Bucket collections and raffle tickets will be on sale during the race and prizes will be handed out at the post race reception party.

An auction will also be held giving away 'fantastic' prizes such as a four ball round of golf at Sunningdale Golf Club.

Last year, people raised £10,000 which was used to support the Ascot Day Care Centre and buy a listening bench for South Ascot Primary.

Robin added: "Everyone really enjoyed it and it was really well liked by the huge amount of spectators that watched the race."
