A £6.5 million residential care home featuring an in-house cinema and hair salon is currently under construction in Shinfield.

The Care UK home named Parsons Grange, will provide full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 68 elderly people and will feature its own cinema, hair salon and cafe.

It is aimed to be complete by June 2020.

Peter Griffiths, development project manager for Care UK, said: “As the latest addition to a growing portfolio of residential care homes, the Shinfield site represents a major investment for Care UK and reflects our commitment to improving the provision of residential care in the town."

The 'Parsons Grange' care home was named after Louisa Parsons, a nurse trained by Florence Nightingale.

Honoured for her service in the British Army, she also founded the University of Maryland School of Nursing, before moving back to England and living her later life in Shinfield, Wokingham.

The new care home will be designed around activities to allow residents to socialise and have companionship and feel less isolated.

The chairman of Shinfield Parish Council, Councillor Andrew Grimes, said: “It was a privilege to be a part of this topping out ceremony, marking a milestone in the construction of a fantastic facility which has been built with residents and families in mind. "Shinfield will benefit greatly from this state-of-the-art building that will be a welcome addition for the community, and I’m excited to continue to follow the progress of the care home”.

Carl Wilson, construction manager for Castleoak, added: “It is a pleasure working with Care UK yet again – this is our 22nd project together over 19 years.

"We’re delighted to be creating a welcoming and fit-for-purpose care home – we could not have asked for a more cohesive approach."
