THERE has been an outcry from the community following the closure of Tilehurst Village Butchers which went into liquidation after more than 30 years of trading.

The Reading Chronicle posted the news on Facebook in October and there has since been 250 comments left on the post with many showing their support for the business.

Alison Clark said: "Really sad news. Such lovely, helpful and friendly staff."

Bob Gardiner added: "This is a great shame. No decent butchers for miles now."

The butcher's owner, Chris Watts, had announced its closure on Facebook and thanked his loyal customers for their support.

He said: "I would like to thank everyone who has shopped with us over the years you weren’t just customers you were friends I will miss you all."

Commenting on The Reading Chronicle's post, Brenda Manning said: "So so sad. Such an amazing reputation. Such a tough world for small businesses."

Kerrie Byers added: "We will miss you all... you have been so kind to me and my family over the years... your products were always so good too... take care Chris and all your staff xx."

Others have not been so supportive of the butchers commenting about the "suffering" of animal life they believe the industry creates.

Mr Watts explained anybody who has saved in the butcher's Christmas club will be refunded over the coming weeks and emailed with details.

He added: "I would also like to say a big thank you to all the people that have messaged me on Facebook.

"Thanks again and sorry."

Now the butchers is closed, where will you be shopping for your meats?
