DELAYS have cleared on the M40 after emergency lane closures, which were in place for much of the day, were lifted.

Drivers faced 50-minute delays during rush hour this evening, hours after a lorry overturned and closed the carriageway near Banbury

As of 5pm, Highways England said the southbound road near Banbury is 'now clear' following lane closures between Junction 11 (Banbury) and 10 (Brackley / Cherwell Valley Services).

It took some time for miles of congestion to clear but the road now appears to be back to normal.

Two southbound lanes had been shut for much of the day for barrier repair works, and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
