PROTECTED TREES in ancient woodland in Sunningdale are being chopped down without permission.
Plots in Coworth Park Copse, which is on Whitmore Lane, have been divided into eleven spaces and are being sold at auction for tens of thousands of pounds.

According to one concerned neighbour, the plots were ‘misleadingly’ marketed as land for development opportunities.
The neighbour said locals are “anxious” more trees will be cut down after one plot was felled at the site, formerly known as Granny Kettle Wood.
A spokeswoman from the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM) said: “This area of ancient woodland is protected by a Tree Preservation Order.

“No works of this nature have been approved by us and as such the felling of trees in this area is unlawful.
“As a result, along with colleagues from planning enforcement, we are currently investigating this contravention and will take any legal action appropriate.”

RBWM has put up notices along the road warning passers-by of the unlawful act.
