A GROUP of delegates from Bracknell have flown to Germany to celebrate the history of the two towns coming together.

From September 6 to 8, Bracknell members visited the History Exhibition Festival in the oldest part of Leverkusen, Opladen.

The town is responsible for the original twinning with Bracknell in 1973 and representatives from the Bracknell Twinning Association and member of the Bracknell Forest Society visited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its history.

Maggie Stock, committee member of BTA and BFS said: "It is so important to come together to celebrate the history of our two towns and to highlight that recognition.

"It was a wonderful weekend and I really enjoyed meeting the members out there, such as Leverkusen's Lord Mayor and Mayor and representatives from Leverkusen's European twin towns Schwedt,Villeneuve d’Ascq, Ljubljana, Raciborz." A celebratory evening event in the Hall of Mirrors at Leverkusen's Baroque Palace saw Maggie amongst other twin town representatives make speeches.

Bracknell guests were invited around the Opladen History Society archives, where many books and documents are stored reflecting the towns twinning history.
