Bracknell Forest lottery seeking good causes ahead of launch

The raffle, which is set to launch this autumn and features a grand prize of £25,000, will see 60 per cent of all proceeds raised go to supporting worthy causes.

Councillor Peter Heydon, Executive Member for Finance and Transformation, said: “The Bracknell Forest Lottery will provide a great opportunity for people to help local charitable organisations they support in a different way.

“We are committed to continuing our existing support to local community groups and this is a way of benefiting many more of them.

“If you, or someone you know, runs, works or volunteers at a community group or a local charity that may be interested in benefiting from the scheme, then please do register interest in getting involved in the lottery at bracknellforest.lottery@bracknell-forest.gov.uk .”

Tickets for the lottery will cost players £1 each, and 60p from each purchase will be channelled to selected causes.

According to Bracknell Forest Council (BFC), this is 32p more than the amount given to good causes from the National Lottery.

Players can log on to BFC’s lottery website to individually select which charity or organisation receives 50p of their contribution, with the remaining ten pence going towards a general Bracknell Forest Lottery good causes pot.

Alternatively, players who do not want to select a specific group when they purchase their ticket can opt to direct all 60p towards the general fund, which will be distributed to local groups by BFC.

Winners will scoop £25,000 if they match six numbers in the weekly draw, with other cash prizes totalling £2,000, £250, £25 and an alternative prize of three free tickets.

The council says more information about how and where to purchase tickets will be made available in the coming weeks.

A BFC report from November 2018 suggested up to £5,000 could be made available for good causes once the lottery becomes ‘well-established’.
