GYPSY'S and travellers were told to "move away" after an angry resident blocked their entry into a private road in Spencer's Wood.

Residents have taken matters into their own hands when roughly 20 caravans tried to drive down Wellington Court at 7pm last night.

One man who lives in the residential estate "luckily" turned into his road before the travellers did and blocked it, preventing them access.

They are now based at a field next to the Magpie and Parrot pub in Shinfield, Reading.

The News were contacted by Victoria Animbam and explained how the 'human blockade' is the only way she and her neighbours can feel safe.

She said: "We have all been taking turns to keep watch and Colin (resident) stayed up all night to block the road. No one else is doing anything, so we have to."

In January 2019, travellers manage to enter Wellington Court in Wokingham and caused "noise and distress" to families, proving this is a popular spot for them.

Roobee Mootyen, a resident at Wellington Court, said: "Last time they were here, the noise was really disturbing, they made a mess and one of their dogs was here one morning scaring my children, it is just wrong."

Her husband Peter said: "They have driven up and down this road twice today, pointed at me and said we are coming.

"Everyone is in fear. It happened before and it took a month for them to leave, they were pretty loud, very messy and the council don't want to take notice.

"The weird thing is they check their welfare and if you tell them a tree is damaged they will come straight away but not if travellers are trying to come in - it is just crazy."

According to the residents, police were contacted but explained they can't do anything because they haven't actually parked up there

Thames Valley Police and The Council have been contacted for a comment.
