PASSENGERS travelling to London today may find the journey a lot slower to prevent accidents during the heatwave.
Network Rail has confirmed that it will be imposing speed restrictions today, as what is expected to be one of the hottest days of the year.
Speed limits will be introduced as temperatures soar to 37C, as 'slower trains exert lower forces on the track and reduce the likelihood of buckling'.
The train company is reducing the speed limits to prevent the tracks from getting too hot and are painting parts of the railway lines white to absorb less heat, strengthening parts of the track.
Great Western Railway and South Western Railway have advised passengers to carry water and speak to a member of staff if they feel unwell.
Phew! It's set to be quite hot outside...
