A BODY of a woman who was found in the River Kennet yesterday morning (July 18) is "not being treated as suspicious".

The 28-year-old from Reading was discovered in the water at around 5.45am and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police closed a section of Kings Road between Watlington Street and Queens Road, after discovering the body.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "Officers attended the scene and entered the water and found that the woman was sadly deceased.

"The death is being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious.

"The woman is 28 and from Reading but formal identification has not taken place. Her next of kin has been informed.

"A file is being prepared for the coroner."

The Wokingham Waterside Centre in Thames Valley Park was also cordoned off with a black tent erected and a forensic officer on site.

A spokesman from the centre confirmed police were present at the Wokingham Waterside Centre and left at midday.

It is not yet known as to why police were there but it is believed to be linked to the body being found in Reading.

Enquiries are still ongoing as to how the incident happened.

A man who lives nearby, who didn't want to be named, said: "I was just walking back from my night shift and came across this.

"It's not what you expect to find on your way back from work."

More updates to come.
