COMPETITIVE residents will get to take part in paddleboarding and running in a bid to win first place at a unique sporting event.

This weekend (July 14) sees Dinton Pastures Country Park host what is believed to be among the 'first event of its kind in the south of England'.

The Dinton SUPathlon, organised by Barnes Fitness in Bracknell, combines stand-up paddleboarding and running made up of teams of two and individuals.

Race organiser Ellie Barnes of Barnes Fitness said: ‘We still have some places left and the weather is looking ideal for racing, so do come and join us.

‘You can complete both the paddle and the run on your own or take part as a two-person relay team, with one of you taking on the paddleboarding and the second tackling the run.

‘So if you’re a runner who has yet to climb on a SUP board, this is your chance to find a partner who has and create a winning team! And vice-versa — paddleboarders, find yourself a runner and get that entry in!’

Entry costs £20 for participants with their own SUP boards and £25 for those who want to hire a board and a paddle on the day.

For relay teams, the total cost is £30 with own board and £35 to include board and paddle hire.

Solo and team entries on the day — which can be paid for by cash or card — cost an additional £5.

Tanya Lee, Dinton Pastures Activity Centre manager, said: ‘We’re delighted to be hosting this new event which we believe will serve as a great introduction to Dinton Pastures as a centre for stand-up paddleboarding.’

The minimum age for the Dinton SUPathlon is 15, and there will be commemorative medals for all participants.

There are on-site changing facilities with hot showers, and refreshments will be available at the finish.
