A popular High Wycombe café which has taken the foodie community by storm is set to close over the summer to give it “a little break”.

Tin Kitchen, which opened almost five years ago on The Quadrangle, off Hatters Lane, regularly has visitors queuing out the door to get a table.

But fans of the café – which has picked up a string of awards and accolades – now face having to wait until September to get their foodie fix after the owners announced a summer closure.

The driving force behind Tin Kitchen, Aimee and Ross Hunt, have had their hands full since opening their second eatery, Lata Lata in the town centre, after crowdfunding £17,500 to launch it.

In a post on their Facebook page – which has more than 3,000 likes – they said they would be “liars if we said Tin hadn’t suffered a little” as a result of Lata Lata’s success.

Bucks Free Press:

They said: “it’s so very important to us that that doesn’t keep happening. We’re going to take the summer to give the café a little break.

“We’ll re-open again mid-September, feeling galvanised, renewed, and ready to get back to looking after you lot and smashing out French toast like there’s no tomorrow.”

Reflecting on their amazing success over the years, they continued: “What a five years it’s been. We’ve been shortlisted every year in the Guardian Observer food awards, picked up a few others, topped TripAdvisor, made some lifelong, amazing friends, and hopefully brought a little bit of something different, something made with such love, to a corner of High Wycombe.

“With your help, we opened Lata Lata last august, and the response to that has been phenomenal. You proved to us again that our little foodie community is loyal, adventurous, forgiving, and big hearted. It’s been a busy year- tough and rewarding in equal measure.”

The café will be open every day until Sunday before it closes until September. However, the team say they will still be hosting private dining events and supper clubs.

The café’s fans were saddened by the news but said the team deserved a break.

Laura Laffan said: “Sad times indeed! Look forward to seeing you open again in September.”

Dan Wilson said: “You’re doing great things, go easy.”

Jenny Fray-Barnard added: “A well-deserved break, if you actually get one. Well done for all you’ve achieved.”

Lata Lata will remain open as usual.
