Man who attacked woman with meat cleaver in Caversham jailed for 18 years

He was found guilty following a trial at Reading Crown Court and was sentenced to prison with 14 years’ in custody and a further 4 years’ on licence, totalling 18 years.

Luke Mackrory, 27, of Lockside Court, Mallard Way in Aldermaston was charged on November 2 last year after an incident on October 31 in Rhine Close, Caversham.

At around 4.20pm, Mackrory viciously assaulted a woman in her fifties with a meat clever.

It left her with injuries to her head including lacerations and a fracture to her skull, and she also received bruising to her body.

The victim received extensive hospital treatment and continues to recover from her substantial injuries.

Mackrory was sentenced for one count of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a bladed article and threatening with a bladed article.

He was found not guilty of attempted murder.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Emily Evans based at Reading police station, said: “This was a vicious attack on the victim, who is still recovering from her injuries.

“Mackrory is a dangerous man and has received a significant prison sentence.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the victim in this case, who has supported this investigation and had to go through the trial.

“Incidents of this nature are taken very seriously and when a report is made it is thoroughly investigated and offenders, like Mackrory, will be taken through the court process.”
