Staff from a Bracknell pub will be going head to head against over 100 other pubs as they compete to raise the most money for Cancer Research UK.

The participants from The Market Inn in Bracknell have teamed up with staff from Yates and The Monks Retreat in Reading, raising over £4,000 so far.

This Thursday however, the three pubs will be battling it out in a strenuous five-mile race around central and east London.

Donned in full Spartan dress, teams of ten will be pedalling eight cycle chariots around the course, with the 60-90-minute race concluding back at the starting point. The two fastest groups will then go head-to-head in a final race to decide the overall winner.

Colin Hawkins, Operations Director for Stonegate Pub Company’s Southern region, who initiated the fundraising idea said: “The team has done a fantastic job in raising so much money, it is an incredible achievement. I am delighted that they have won a space in our exciting chariot race.

“We’ve all been touched by cancer in some way in our lives, so we wanted to do our bit as a division to raise money to help stamp out this awful disease. The pub teams and their customers are all behind this and together we intend to raise a big chunk for the cause. Let the race begin!”
