A POPULAR country park has managed to raise money for life-saving equipment to help make it safer for runners using the site.

Parkrun, a weekly running group for local residents has been raising funds for a defibrillator at California Country Park in Finchampstead.

The exercise group, which was founded 14 years ago to improve people's lives through running - has multiple Parkrun groups across the UK and abroad.

Dr Phillip Lee helped the running group achieve their goal of funding a much-needed defibrillator and presented them with a cheque totalling £269, raised from the MPs Berkshire Business Network.

Dr Lee said: "I guess it goes without saying that as a doctor, I am a great believer in the power of exercise to keep people healthy.

"By catering for people of all ages and abilities, events such as the California Country park run are having a real impact on people's health in the area.

"I am delighted that local businesses in our area are also engaged with the local community and thank them for the wide range of support they offer for local groups."

California County Park hosts a 5km long run every Saturday morning at 9am for all running abilities.
