THE community has rallied to help install a defibrillator and pass on potentially life-saving advice.

Members of Our Lady Peace Social Club held a training session on May 20 following an efficient fundraising campaign.

The installation was prompted by two people being taken ill in separate incidences at the social club.

Training on how to use the new device was given by Steve Blethyn from Beyond First Aid.

Phil Boardman, chairman of the social club, said: “I would like to thank everyone who helped raise these funds.

"We have been astonished how generous people have been and the short time it has taken to raise the money.

"I would like to thank Steve Blethyn, who voluntarily gave us the benefit of his expertise.

"The unit will also benefit the local community, since the ambulance service will be made aware of its location and access code.”

The funds needed to pay for the defibrillator were raised in a very short space of time.

Donations, as well as cash and raffle prizes from club members, helped them to purchase the device.

The unit will be located on the wall outside the church hall complex.
