Marlow Town Council clerk Hilary Martin writes exclusively to Bucks Free Press readers:

Marlow Town Council has a wide range of responsibilities in the community, but do you know about all the events they organise throughout the year?

Late April is the outgoing mayor’s last opportunity to raise funds for their nominated charity with the mayor’s Charity Golf Day which has kindly been hosted by Harleyford Golf Club for the last 15 years.

This year, 24 teams enjoyed a beautiful sunny day of golf with a dinner and prize giving following in the evening, raising £6,000.

The annual parish meeting and annual meeting of the council take place on Tuesday, May 14, in the General Higginson Room in Court Garden House.

The evening starts at 7pm and opens with the annual parish report where the council’s report on the year is presented to the public.

This is followed by the annual meeting where the mayor and the deputy mayor are elected and this year, the newly created positions of leader and deputy leader of the council.

This is followed by public question time and all are welcome to attend.

Swiftly following is the new Mayor’s Civic Service which takes place on June 9 at All Saints Church at 3pm and conducted by the Reverend Dave Bull.

This is the new mayor’s opportunity to address the community and set the tone for the mayoral term. On Sunday, September 29, the council hosts its Celebrate Marlow event, now in its third year at The Crowne Plaza Hotel. The lunchtime event is our opportunity to thank all those that selflessly volunteer their time to work in our community and recognise the important work they do.

Do you know an unsung hero who should be nominated for an invitation to this event? Please let us know: office@marlow-tc.gov.uk.

November 10 is the Remembrance Service and parade where we work closely with the Royal British Legion to put on one of the largest attended services in the south east of England with over 6,000 people paying their respects.

The end of November sees the excitement of the celebrity Christmas Light Switch-On where the town sparkles with extensive twinkling trees and lights.

A VIP reception for our sponsors that help fund the lights is hosted ahead of the light switch on this year on November 21.

The calendar year draws to a close with Carols on The Causeway on December 19, where the Marlow Town Band leads us in traditional carols, mulled wine and mince pies are served and, for the younger ones, Father Christmas is ready in his grotto for them to visit.

A very busy year for Marlow Town Council!
