SCHOOL students have been busy coming up with names for the rooms at a new care home in Bracknell, which will open next year.

Students from the Sandy Lane Primary School in Bracknell took part in a competition to name the five suites at Bickerton House on Warfield Road.

The children put their heads together in order to come up with a list full of names that have cultural or historical reference to the area.

Four of the best names were then picked out by the care team.

Erika Smith the home manager of Bickerton House believes letting the children name the rooms allowed the home to reach out to the community.

She said: “The all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a priority, and we thought this presented an excellent opportunity to work with Sandy Lane Primary School, and to get to know our neighbours a little better.

“The ideas the pupils put forward were all of a very high quality, and we’re really pleased with the chosen four names.”

The local-themed suites will be known as known as Deer’s Antlers Suite, named after the iconic Bracknell logo, Swinley Forest Suite, named after the local woodland, Wildmoor Suite, named after Wildmoor Heath park and Mill Pond Suite, after the pond in Mill Park.

The new care home is due to open in January next year, which will provide full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care. It will also incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and will include its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.

The winning children were presented with individual book vouchers to say thank you for all their hard work.
