A POPULAR and affordable supermarket has announced it will be coming to Wokingham very soon.

Elms Field in Wokingham will soon be getting an Aldi, as the retailer announces seven new store openings in the South East.

Aldi is currently under construction and an opening date has not yet been confirmed.

Ben Shotter, regional managing director at Aldi, said: "We have set out ambitious plans for this year and we are investing heavily across the South East to ensure even more people in the region can shop and save closer to home."

The supermarket will have a fresh new layout, ensuring space for fresh, chilled and food-to-go ranges as well as wider aisles, making it easier for shopping.

The store will stock grocery essentials, and features its specially selected range, as well as products from British suppliers promising to sell fresh meat that is 100 per cent British.

Aldi was also crowned Grocer of the Year 2018, for offering one of the best working environments nationally, and one of the highest rates of pay against leading supermarkets.

The majority of Aldi colleagues now receive a minimum rate of £9.10 per hour, regardless of their age.

The retailer currently operates more than 825 stores, including more than 70 stores in the South East and plans to extend its offer to even more households as it works towards having 1,200 UK stores by 2025.

Ben added: "We have a fantastic team across the area and this means we can grow and offer even more employment opportunities for local people."
