LOVERS of the English tradition welcomed and joined in with maypole and Morris dancers at Hurst Village Hall last week.

The Hurst Morris People, who dance in the Cotswold style organised the free event to celebrate May Day on Wednesday, May 1.

The dance group welcomed dozen of visitors including OBJ Border Morris dancers who are based in Bracknell and Aldbrickham Clog and Step Dancers, based in Reading.

Karen Ricketts, squire leader of The Hurst Morris People, said: “It was great seeing everyone joining in with such enthusiasm and a lovely way to celebrate the month of  May when our dancing out season begins.”

The three groups performed their different dance traditions as spectators also joined in with maypole dancing, taught by folk dancer Andrew Godfrey.

On May 16 The Hurst Morris People will dance at The Wheelwright’s Arms in Hurst.
