A DEDICATED runner from Bracknell has completed the London Marathon for an Asthma charity in memory of his father who passed away from the condition.

41-year-old Jack Wataranan took part in the race on Sunday, April 28 as he completed the 26.2 mile course across London.

Jack raised a total of £1,216 for the Asthma UK charity, which offers health advice and support through its telephone helpline.

Mr Wataranan ran the race to help ensure no other family has to go through what he has.

He said: “We were devastated when we lost my dad Viroj to a fatal asthma attack. Our lives have never been the same again.

“That’s why I decided to run the London Marathon for Asthma UK, to fund world-leading research that will stop asthma attacks and cure asthma, so no other family will go through what we went through.”

Jack also completed the marathon last year where he crossed the line in just under seven hours.

Rachel Devereux, director of fundraising at Asthma UK, added: “Asthma affects 5.4 million people in the UK and can leave people gasping for breath.

“In some cases it can be fatal and it claims the lives of three people every day.

“That’s why our work at Asthma UK is vital, to fund research into a cure for the condition and offer health advice to help people with asthma stay well.”

The charity are grateful to Jack for the money he has raised.

Rachel said: “We can only do this thanks to our generous fundraisers and we want to thank Jack and all of our runners for their hard work and dedication in training for and taking on this iconic event.”
