A SURPRISE tea party took place to celebrate the retirement of two 'outstanding' volunteers from a charity.

COATS (Crowthorne Old Age to Teen Society) in Crowthorne, hosted the afternoon for Ken and Irene Wicks, who have contributed to the charity for over 15 years.

The pair have decided to retire to spend more time with their family and on travelling.

Over 50 trustees, volunteers, friends and family celebrated the special day, presenting gifts and flowers to appreciate their efforts over the years.

David Wilson, trustee at Coats, said: "Ken was one of the first trustees on the COATS board and his experience, practical skills and energy were used to great effect particularly in the early days. "He did everything from repairs and maintenance, driving the minibus to being the chief warehouseman.

"Irene was the driving force in the COATS charity shops and worked tirelessly to establish the hugely successful shop it is now."
