A NEW car park has opened at California Country Park providing 80 spaces as part of a major improvement project.

The new car park is the first of several improvements being made to the park in Finchampstead.

As well as changes to the car park the first phase of the project will make other changes including a series of pergolas, which will be put in place to provide an all-weather covered café area. There will also be an improved access road, which will be widened to allow for two-way traffic.

Andy Glencross, community, heritage and green infrastructure specialist at Wokingham Borough Council, said: “Completing the improved car parking is an important milestone for the California Country Park project.

“This first phase is about getting the infrastructure right for the exciting improvements to come at the park. I am glad the disruption has been kept to a minimum and would like to thank visitors for their patience.”

The council are planning to consult the public about later improvement phases, which may include upgrading play equipment and more seating and information boards but no final decisions have been announced.

The park, including the café will remain open during construction.
