DISUSED land in Woodley is planned to be turned into an art site to help young people as part of a wokingham charities 21st anniversary celebrations.

The Wokingham based young people’s charity Just Around the Corner (JAC) are planning to use the disused land off Loddon Bridge Road, on the A329M in Woodley to create the artwork as part of a parkour.

Sam Milligan, co-founder of Just Around the Corner, said: “The atmosphere and setting among the pillars mean it could become a world destination for art.

“We have leading street artists lined up for some pillar paintings of parkour action.

“It won’t be tagging or graffiti and should start late this spring or in the summer."

A parkour is a land with different height obstacles, which allows people to run, jump and climb over them.

The charity is also encouraging young people to help design the space.

Sam Milligan added: “Parkour is free running, jumping and climbing over different height obstacles in a very active and flowing way. It’s almost like outdoor gymnastics.

“We’re encouraging local young people to design and build the parkour site.

“We’re grateful to Woodley Town and Wokingham Borough Councils for supporting the scheme.”

Woodley Town Council are working in partnership with the charity to complete the project.

Debra Mander, Town Clerk from Woodley Town Council, said: "The council works in partnership with Just Around the Corner.

"This project is a way of working with young people, we are hoping for some art and are supporting the project."

Each week JAC helps more than 100 young people from the Wokingham, Bracknell and Reading boroughs.

Yvonne Milligan, co-founder of JAC, added: “We will still be building trusted relationships with the young people.

“We aim to help them make good relationships, feel more secure, listened to, worthy and enabled to do good things.”

There will be a range of other anniversary events, which include pony rides, a bouncy castle, and stalls at the Hurst Show and Country Fayre on June 29 and 30.
