A GROUP of talented students will be performing an adaptation of Disney's hit show High School Musical.

Audiences will get to watch the energetic cast perform the show from April 17 to 22 at South Hill Park in Bracknell.

The show sees the high school jock - Troy Bolton, fall in love with Gabriella Montez at a half term party.

When returning back to school, the pair audition for the upcoming 'high school musical', meanwhile Sharpay Evans conspires to be the star of the show.

Mark Hooper, director of the production, said: "The generation who fell in love with this story thirteen years ago are now young adults.

"It is a great time to relive childhood nostalgia and although the show is two hours of high-energy, fun for all of the family, at the heart of the show lies a message of embracing 'what you do not know' and that we do not always have to stick to the status quo."

The production is one of the largest yet for the Bracknell Arts Centre - in terms of music and choreography - with the team helping the cast learn the dance sequences as thoroughly as possible.

Bracknell girl, Poppy Ridell, plays the leading role of Sharpay Evans in the upcoming production.

She said: "I was a huge fan of the movie as a kid. It was like the 'Grease' of the noughties.

"To have the opportunity to audition for my musical on stage ten years later was a no-brainer - I am living my childhood dream."

The 19-year-old will be performing her first leading role on South Hill Park's Wilde Theatre Stage as the infamous theatre diva character of Sharpay Evans.

She has also been a finalist of BroadwayWorld.com for the best children's show at the Edinburgh Fringe 2018.

Poppy Ridell added: "Audiences can certainly expect a high energy, fun and exciting production.

"It is a feel-good production in time for the Easter holidays so there is something for all ages to enjoy in this show."
