RENEWABLE energy contracts aimed to reduce carbon footprint and tackle climate change in the Borough, has finally got the go ahead.

The contracts mean Bracknell Town Council (BTC) will reduce their carbon footprint by 60 per cent from 2021.

As well as this, the contracts ensure renewable gas and electricity energy is certified to come from renewable sources.

Councillor Dr Peter Hill, member of Working Group, said: "By sourcing our electricity and gas from renewable sources we will be able to make a huge cut to our carbon footprint with no additional cost to the taxpayer.

“I am incredibly proud of the progress our Working Group and the Council has made since 2017."

Working Group and a ten year programme was established by Cllr Hill in 2017 to recognise the pressing issue of climate change and air pollution.

Due to the negative impact this is having on the planet, the Working Group have tried to reduce its carbon footprint in Bracknell.

Just over 30 parks in Bracknell, along with woodlands and green areas are looked after by Bracknell Town Council, who indicate they are conscious of the impact carbon footprint has on the environment.

Councillor Paul Bettison, leader of Bracknell Forest Council, said: "All of our schools and the leisure facilities are great.

"It is not called Bracknell Forest for no reason, 37 per cent of the land is still covered by trees."

BTC have also announced the new Great Hollands Pavilion, a community hub providing a fresh outdoor space, will be using renewable energy for all electricity and gas.

Cllr Dr Peter Hill added: "I believe we’re achieving our aim of providing leadership to other organisations by demonstrating that saving the earth doesn’t have to cost the earth.

"I look forward to seeing other public and private organisations following our lead.”

The Council is now looking into other environmentally friendly projects, such as the use of electric vehicles and machinery.
