A LOVING married couple from Bracknell will become the fourth consecutive duo in their family to celebrate their 60th Anniversary.

84-year-old Ron and 81-year-old Rosie Attfield who live in Crowthorne have been married since 1959 and will be following Ron’s great-grandparents, grandparents and parents who have all celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

Mr Attfield has framed the letters his family have received from Her Majesty The Queen for their achievements.

Rosie has been diagnosed with multi sclerosis and dementia, which means she receives care from the Helping Hands organisation, who assist adults of all ages to stay in the comfort of their own homes.

Ron believes that without the supports of the carers the couple would face difficulties.

He said: “Without the support of the carers, we would be faced with a lot more difficulties at home and would have to consider moving into a residential care setting, which we do not want to do.

“We would like to remain living at home surrounded by our memories and familiarities.”

Mr Attfield believes the secret to their successful marriage is following simple steps.

He added: “In my opinion, to have a successful marriage you need three things; you must respect each other, communicate and in particular listen and finally you have to have love.”

The Wokingham Branch of Helping Hands help Rosie be able to stay at home and are more than happy to help.

Katy Cresswell, branch manager at Helping Hands Wokingham, said: “It is a delight to be able to care for Mrs Attfield and make things as comfortable as we can.

“My team of professional carers do an incredible job ensuring our customers remain living independently in their own homes”.

The couple will be celebrating their Anniversary at East Berkshire Golf Club in Crowthorne with their friends and family on April 7.
