ENTHUSIASTIC students embraced cultures from their peers in an International Day, celebrating diversity.

On March 15, pupils from LVS Ascot learned about different countries through a series of talks, workshops and art work.

Charlotte Dawson, head of international relations at LVS Ascot, said: "Our international students always enjoy sharing their culture and they put a tremendous amount of work in to make it our most successful International Day yet."

Senior school students watched contemporary Chinese dance and traditional songs from Russia in the schools 250 seat theatre.

After this, they then continued to embrace culture where the lunchtime menu consisted of chicken tikka masala, beef in black bean sauce and Russian stroganoff.

James Dagan, year 11 student, said: "In spite of our physical and cultural differences we are all similar, and were able to teach and learn about what makes our countries what they are.”

The boarding schools rich diversity in nationalities allowed the students to teach their peers about their culture, as well as for teachers to learn more about the lives and upbringings of foreign students.

Younger pupils at the infant and junior school enjoyed taking part in a range of dance classes which coincided with their school curriculum.

Year 2 students learned Chinese traditional dance moves, while year 1's learned bollywood and year 3's took on Egyptian style choreography.

Ruslan Hasanov, year 10 student, added: "When I meet people from other countries in the future, I will be able to interact when them better because I have been introduced to their culture there."

The school hosted an afternoon of workshops, including African drumming led by a professional drummer and chinese painting, origami and anime all led by students.

A whole host of international sports was played by the students which also celebrates the , such as American football, Kho Kho from India and volleyball equivalent Sepak Takraw which originally came from Thailand.

Head of international relations, Charlotte Dawson, added: "Understanding promotes unity and I like to think that International Day plays a part in uniting our community here at LVS Ascot."
