RESIDENTS will soon have to book online to have their garden waste collected as the council tries to increase recycling capacity.

Bracknell Forest Council announced on March 25, that from July 2019 they will not be collecting garden waste sacks alongside the blue recycling bins.

Residents are able to leave their brown biodegradable sacks next to their recycling bin, however people are confused as to whether their brown bins will still be collected.

Locals have taken to Twitter to express their concerns:

Also, one man said: "If the brown bins are being collected, there can be no problem in collecting brown bags at the same time."

Currently, the rubbish trucks are split bodied and collects recycling on one side - and on the other - collects garden waste.

During the Winter months, there is less garden waste, therefore the trucks will be adapted to maximise recycling capacity.

Damian James, assistant director for contract services at BFC, said: "We are keen to maximise our recycling capacity, particularly during the quieter winter months, and by booking in collections we can target the right areas and make the process more efficient, in turn reducing our environmental impact.

"Some residents who use garden sacks have small gardens and will only put sacks out occasionally, rather than every two weeks like the brown bins.

“Customers with brown bins will still continue to have these collected as normal, providing they have paid the annual charge”.

The bags will cost £1 each and will be available in Bracknell Library, Bracknell Town Council, Birch Hill Library, Binfield Parish Council and more.
