KIND-hearted residents gave up their time to pick up litter in parks and roads in and around Bracknell.

The annual spring clean took place on March 23 and saw residents and councillors take part in 'Keeping Britain Tidy'.

Bracknell Town Council and Bracknell Forest Council teamed up to take part in the nationwide campaign and help the environment.

Over 10 areas in Bracknell were part of the litter pick, including Braybrooke Park, Jennetts Park and Birch Hill Recreation Ground.

Janet Dowlman, head of environmental services, said: “Officers from Bracknell Forest Council and Bracknell Town Council organised a voluntary litter pick as part of our Take Pride initiative on Saturday, 23 March.

"We collected lots of plastic bottles and cans that would normally end up in landfill, and will now be taken to Longshot Lane for recycling.

Keep Britain Tidy aims to encourage 50,000 people to volunteer and take part in litter picks.

The charity works in partnership with communities, businesses and the government to collect and safely dispose of rubbish from streets, parks and beaches - recycling as much as possible.

Janet added: “Discarded cans and glass bottles can trap small animals yet they are very easy to recycle again and again, saving energy and natural resources, and most people are aware of the harm that plastics can cause to the environment and the urgent need to reduce the impact of plastic packaging.

"There are over 750 litter bins across the borough, many of which have a recycling compartment. We would urge residents to use these bins or to take their litter home with them, to recycle in their blue bin.”
