A BIRD café has been opened in Bracknell by children from a charity in order to mark the end of the Big Schools Bird Watch.

The school bird watch is set up by The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and children from the Sebastian’s Action Trust opened the café at the Barratt Homes Cricket Field Grove development site in Crowthorne.

The bird café has a feeding station and several hanging feeders, which is hoped to attract a variety of species to the development and allow children to see a range of different birds.

The activity took place as part of the monthly Art and Garden Club run by the charity, which has been designed to encourage children to play outside and get more involved in nature.

Barratt Homes has a corporate partnership with the RSPB to help give nature a home on its development sites.

Lynnette St-Quintin, sales director for Barratt Southern Counties, said: “As part of our partnership with the RSPB, we are delighted to support the Big Schools’ Bird Watch at Cricket Field Grove.

“We hope that the children from Sebastian’s Action Trust enjoyed taking part in the activity and encourage them to return to the development to see the bird café in action.”

The annual bird watching event, which takes place from January 2 to February 22 sees children from across the UK talk about nature.

Jane Gates, CEO of the Sebastian’s Action Trust, said: “The children really thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the bird café activity as part of February’s art and gardening club session.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Barratt Homes for hosting this activity.”

The partnership also involves installing features such as swift bricks and nest boxes throughout new developments.
