A NEW manager at a golf complex in Wokingham is hoping to use her position to raise awareness for women in golf.

Emma Evans has been announced as the new general manager of the Everyone Active’s Downshire Golf Complex.

Ms Evans has been involved with the sport for more than 20 years and has worked with the golf complex since 2017.

Emma hopes she will be able to make the most of her new position by encouraging women to believe that golf isn’t just a sport for men.

She said: “I’m really proud to start as the new general manager for Everyone Active. The facility is a pay and play golf course which means it’s accessible for everyone and I’m hoping that my new role will show other women that golf isn’t just a man’s game.

“I have played and worked in golf throughout most of my life and I would encourage anyone interested in having a go to come down and visit us at the facility where we can tell them about all the different opportunities to take part in the sport.”

England Golf’s research has shown that only 15 per cent of golf club members are female and the Wokingham facility has taken steps to improve this figure by offering a range of women only classes for beginners and more experienced golfers.

The facility has a 18-hole championship course and a floodlit driving range so that beginners and experiences players can work on all aspects of their game.

Ms Evans has taken over management since the end of February this year and completed the ‘Certificate in Golf Club Management’ at Buckinghamshire University.

She also hopes to highlight the fact that golf also has a range of fitness and health benefits.
