TODAY is the United Nations International Day of Happiness.

This was created in 2012 after the first UN conference on happiness – and the UN General Assembly decided there would be an international day of joy every year on March 20.

It was first celebrated in 2013 and is now recognised by all 193 UN member states.

To mark the occasion, reporter Harry Bullmore  has put together a list of top ten Argus feel-good stories from the past 12 months.

1. Juicy Jo Morrison beats cancer to become champion body builder

The Argus:

A WOMAN who was told she would never walk again defied the odds by becoming a world champion bodybuilder.

Brighton resident Jo Morrison was diagnosed with advanced aggressive cervical cancer when she was 26, and later suffered a brain tumour, meaning she lost the ability to walk.

But Jo, now 54, focused on her fitness and won the Pure Elite World Championships Female Transformation Category.

2. Max the hero dog saves life of girl sitting on cliff edge

The Argus:

A HERO dog saved a 14-year-old girl’s life after finding her on a cliff edge.
Max the six-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier was out on a walk with his owner George Conner on the cliffs in Rottingdean when he started to act oddly.

He ran through a fence and towards the cliff edge then sat down next to a shape.

George initially thought it was a plastic bag, but soon realised it was a young girl.

He quickly contacted police who came to the cliffs and dragged the girl, who he said looked as though she was suffering from hypothermia, away from the edge.

Officers thanked him, but he said it was down to Max.

3. Brighton PC gets tattoo of suspect on his leg for charity

The Argus:

AFTER years of being ridiculed for a terrible drawing of a burglary suspect he did at the start of his career, PC Lee Willis decided to steer into the skid.

The 43-year-old was sponsored by friends and family to have the dodgy drawing tattooed on his leg in January.

All proceeds were donated to mental health charity Mind.

4. Child model fights heart surgery and models for New York and London fashion weeks

The Argus:

AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl who survived heart surgery has gone on to have a successful modelling career, starring on the catwalk in New York and London fashion weeks.

Amy Lee was seriously ill as a baby and rushed to Evelina London Children’s Hospital at just four months old.

Doctors discovered a hole between her aorta and pulmonary artery that caused too much blood to be delivered to the lungs, which could be life-threatening.

But after successful treatment, Amy, from East Grinstead, has since blossomed in her fashion career.

She has also modelled in adverts for fashion designer Krissie Colton and her brand, ME Clothing.

5. 2018 soars to joint top spot for hottest summer on record

The Argus:

THOUSANDS swarmed to Brighton beach as temperatures soared last summer.
The heatwave hit its height in July with thermometers reaching more than 35 degrees.
Tourists came from as far afield as Azerbaijan, while lemurs at Drusillas Park in Alfriston relied on ice lollies to keep cool.

6. Eazy-E to be memorialised in Newhaven after man's bizarre campaign

The Argus:

A FAN of American rapper Eazy-E has been successful in his bid to have his hip-hop hero immortalised in his home town.
Newhaven resident Guy Stevens demanded his town council erect a statue to the star of gangsta rap group NWA.

Newhaven Town Council had previously admitted it had “no idea” who Eazy-E is.

But, it has now said it will allow the super fan to build a bench in his honour.

7. Fans watch England match from lounge on van roof

The Argus:

TWO enterprising football fans found a cheeky way to watch the World Cup for nothing.

The two landscapers recreated a lounge on the top of their van to see over a wall and watch the England game on a big screen on Brighton beach, saving themselves the ticket price.

They even ordered food.

James Hamilton, one of the men, said: “One police officer tried to tell us she wasn’t OK with it and to move.

But at that exact moment our Deliveroo arrived to the van and there was a huge cheer.”

8. Replacement bandana made for Bertie the bulldog

The Argus:

LAST month, The Argus reported that Bertie the British bulldog had lost his bandana, a prop he had to wear for his role as Rufus the dog in Legally Blonde the musical.

But the dog and his owner, Diane Pickett, of Patcham, Brighton, were saved when a former Peacehaven resident saw the article.

After hearing about the problem, clothing personalisation company owner Sarah Jane made a replacement bandana for Bertie.

9. Fatboy Slim rocks a sell-out crowd on Brighton's i360

The Argus:

HOVE DJ Fatboy Slim played an exclusive gig on the i360.

The musician, real name Norman Cook, said that “nothing beats playing to a home crowd” as he played an intimate show to an audience of 120 people.

A further 1.2 million people watched the performance through a Facebook livestream.

Tickets for the show sold out in minutes.
