A BRACKNELL karate club has been recognised for the care they provide during classes.

Silwood Park Karate have been awarded the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts on Wednesday, March 6.

It was awarded by Sport England, who have recently launched the safeguarding code to recognise clubs who have reached excellent standards.

Gillian, an instructor at Silwood Park Karate, said: “I'm really proud that the safeguarding policies and procedures we've developed have been recognised to be of an extremely high quality.

“It's really important that the martial arts clubs parents and carers entrust with their children are taught by qualified professionals who understand safeguarding issues.”

In order to achieve the award Gillian, along with instructor Daniel demonstrated the club's policies, procedures and practices were of an extremely high standard and that they were appropriately qualified.

The karate club are the only organisation in Bracknell to achieve this high standard award and hope that other martial arts clubs will be inspired to review their safeguarding procedures.

Gillian added: “I would strongly encourage every martial arts club in Bracknell to work towards achieving this, and every parent and carer to consider the qualifications of a martial arts instructor, including their knowledge and understanding of safeguading, before choosing the best club for their child."
