EXCITED children received a special visit from Pudsey Bear after a charity received over £100k in donations.

Children in Need visited Thames Hospice Bray Lake centre on February 27 to meet and greet patients, families and staff and pose for photos.

The Berkshire charity received a £122,000 grant from BBC Children in Need to help expand its youth support services.

Simon Smith, head of patient and family support, said: "We are thrilled that BBC Children in Need recognise and value the work we do.

Our team will now be better equipped to help children and young people express their feelings, reduce any risk of isolation and build coping strategies for their changing circumstances."

Thames Hospice patient and family support team help around 150 children and young people living in Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire who are facing the loss of a family member, every year.

Simon added: "The serious illness or death of a parents can be devastating for children and young people, and bring multiple challenges into their lives."

The money from the grant will help Thames Hospice develop peer-to-peer support groups, counselling and therapy sessions.

The charity provides expert care for people with life-limiting illnesses in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire and provides therapy, nursing and medical care as well as practical and emotional support in their Windsor Hospice and patients homes.
