HUNDREDS of runners gathered together on Sunday to take part in one of Berkshire's 'fastest race of the year'.

The Wokingham Half marathon saw some of the nations top athletes run in this years race, with the men's race beating last years time.

Participants took to the 13.3 mile course, starting and finishing at Cantley Park; running towards Downshire golf course and back past the Citroen garage.

Race day started at 9am on February 24, with sunny spells and an extra 10 degrees which, luckily didn't have an effect on the runners.

The flat surfaces makes it a popular run for long-distance enthusiasts, whether it for people looking to complete their first half marathon or established runners seeking a personal best.

Chris Sumner, organiser of the Wokingham Half marathon, said: "We are really pleased. There were record breaking personal bests and so far, Wokingham is the fastest race of the year beating Brighton's which took place on the same day."

Matt Clowes won the men's race with an impressive finish time of 1:04:06, making this faster than last years time.

Hayley Munn was the winner for the women's race with a fast finish time of 1:16:51.

Chris added: "These results made Wokingham a quick race and it will be even quicker next time.

"It went incredibly well and I am so happy."

Many local charities and community groups support the Wokingham half marathon, with volunteers helping to marshal the route, manage water stations and look after the race village.
