PROPOSALS have been put forward for a new leisure centre in Sunningdale in a bid to expand services for residents.
The planning application has been submitted for the facility, which would be co-located with Charters School and existing services.
Plans include a six-lane 25m swimming pool, 60-station gym and 100 additional car parking spaces.
The new centre, which would be known as Oaks Leisure Centre, will provide services seven days a week, subject to planning permission being approved.
Councillor Samantha Rayner, lead member for Culture and Communities at the Royal Borough said: “Formally submitting the planning application for this beautifully designed, high quality new leisure centre in the south of the borough is a big step forward and shows our commitment to improving access to leisure facilities for all our residents.
“The proposals could see residents and pupils at Charters School benefit from a wider range of leisure facilities including a swimming pool meaning they would no longer have to travel to access swimming facilities.”
The existing Charters Leisure Centre is expected to remain in operation; offering gym, sports hall and squash facilities during and following the construction.
If the planning application is approved – and subject to capital funding being agreed – it is hoped the new leisure centre will be open by spring 2021.
