Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) reported on Twitter that an emergency closure was put in place on Park Lane, Finchampstead, due to a sewage collapse.

A spokesman for WBC, said: "Thames Water will need to replace the section of the sewer and repair damage caused to the road.

"This will take a number of weeks to repair but it is difficult to provide accurate details at this stage.

"A diversion route of Nine Mile Ride, Finchampstead Road, Jubilee Road, The Village, Fleet Hill and Reading Road will be in place throughout this work."

A Thames Water spokesman, said: "We responded quickly to start emergency repairs on the damaged sewer pipe in Park Lane.

"The road is closed between Nine Mile Ride and West Court with diversions in place.

"Our engineers can complete the vital work on the pipe safely.

"We apologise for any disruption caused and aim to complete the works as soon as possible."

Residents have been reassured access will be maintained to properties and businesses will also be maintained from the repair works taking place.
