WEATHER warnings remain in place for Berkshire, with residents urged to beware of icy conditions on the roads.

Heavy snowfall led to school closures and traffic chaos on Friday and the Met Office issued a yellow warning for Saturday morning.

Friday's snow will gradually ease during the evening, with icy stretches expected to develop as temperatures fall.

This is highly likely in areas where there is lying snow or where there has been any melting of snow during Friday daytime.

What to expect:

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services in areas where snow continues

Firefighters in West Berkshire worked with shovels to clear a route out of their stations.

Thousands of schoolchildren enjoyed a snow day, as hundreds of schools across the country closed their doors.
