A CEREMONY recognising hard-work by members of the community was held and presented by Wokingham Town Mayor Cllr Julian McGhee- Sumner.

Wokingham Town Council spent time looking for individuals working within the area who deserve credit for their achievements and contribution to the town.

Those awarded were recognised for caring for people in the community, participate in voluntary work, support art and culture within the town or who order a valued service to the public or just as importantly being a good neighbour.

Councillor David Lee, chairman of Civic Committee said: "As Chair of the Town Council's Civic Committee I am impressed by the contribution all nominees make to the running and wellbeing of our town.

"We are very lucky in that Wokingham has a multitude of organisations and charities set up to raise funds and help others. #

The Civic Awards ceremony was hosted on January 25 at the Town Hall and recipients were nominated by a member of the community.

Nominations are then judged by a selection panel including members of Wokingham Town Councils Civic Committee and the high steward of Wokingham, Lucy Zeal.

Dennis Eyriey picked up an award for his contribution to United Charities and his 'dedication to each aspect of his role is unwavering' ensuring that the charity gets a bright future ahead.

Paul Jeffery also received an award for his expertise in education. he served as a governor at St Crispin's school for 13 years and his hard work has meant that students, staff, parents and members of the community benefit from his skills.

Councillor Julian McGhee-Sumner added: "It has been a privilege to present the Civic Awards tonight to four outstanding individuals who give so much time and energy to help others within our community.

"Congratulations to them all for the amazing work they do and to the many other people who give freely of their time to help others."
