A RAMPANT blaze at a barn in Hurst required the help of six fire crews.

Teams from across Berkshire were deployed to Pound Lane at around 4.40am on Thursday.

Nelson's Lane was still closed between the junctions with Pound Lane and Broadcommon Road several hours later.

The cause of the extensive fire has not yet been identified, but an investigation has been launched.

The efforts of the fire service ensured that the blaze did not spread to nearby buildings.

It is believed that there were no injuries.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) sent crews from Wokingham, Wokingham Road, Bracknell, Crowthorne, Caversham Road and Whitley Wood, as well as an incident command unit from Maidenhead.

A spokesman for RBFRS: "At 4.41am on Thursday, January 24, we received reports of a barn fire on Pound Lane in Hurst.

"Upon arrival, firefighters were faced with a well-developed fire in the barn.

"They used two main jets and hose reel jets to tackle the fire. They were able to prevent the fire spreading to adjacent buildings.

"Two crews and one officer currently remain on the scene and a fire investigation will be taking place today to establish the cause of the fire."
