THE most outrageous, yet family-friendly, party animals in Scotland are heading to Galashiels this spring.

And they are encouraging everyone to leave their inhibitions at the door to join them for a feast of fun-loving music.

Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 are rightly renowned as Scotland's favourite festival band.

For the past five or six years John McAlinden and his merry troop of yellow-clad musicians have been bringing peace, love and mustard to festival fields all over the UK.

And the famous Barrowlands have become a spiritual home for the Glasgow-based band as they regularly perform to sell-out audiences.

Disco-ball helmets, blow-up unicorns, road-crossing lollipops and bizarre stage antics go hand-in-hand with a funky set of memorable set, imaginatively described as the day Primal Scream and Happy Mondays had children genetically fused with the DNA of Frank Zappa, Bob Marley, James Brown, George Clinton and Neil Diamond.

Expect plenty audience participation, laughter and the odd mishap as Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 bring their uniquely wonderful music and outlook on life to Galashiels.

As with all Colonel Mustard gigs the audience will be asked to adhere to the mustard manifesto of...

“Laugh until you no longer know what it is to hate, release your soul, determine your own fate, lose your self consciousness, find anonymous awesomeness, in bottomless thoughtfulness, lose your inhibitions, forget the distractions, take non-violent direct action, be your own improvement, and use your illusion."

As with most Colonel Mustard gigs, the MacArts show on Friday, March 29 is family-friendly with all under 18s to be accompanied by at least one irresponsible adult.

A spokeswoman for MacArts told us: "Fancy dress is highly encouraged – be it sequins, all things yellow, unicorns – anything…but don’t forget your dancing shoes, and bring everyone you know.

"Let’s make their first visit to The Borders a memorable one!"

Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 are supported by Sea Bass Kid at the MacArts on Friday, March 29.

Tickets, priced at £12 and £10 for concessions, are available from the box office on 01896 756852 or from www.ticketsource.co.uk/macarts
