CHILDREN are gathering to sing it out at a fundraising event to help raise money for vulnerable death people.

Students and staff from Winkfield St Mary's C of E Primary School will sing Take That - Greatest Day on February, 7 to raise money by taking part in a sign2sing event.

The event has seen thousands of schools, businesses and organisations take part to learn basic sign language through music.

After learning the song, they will be hosting a fundraising event and performing sign language to an audience.

Zoe Lee, deputy head said: "We are so excited to be taking part.

"It is a fantastic way for the children to learn how important communication is while having fun mastering a little sign language and raising money to help improve the health of deaf people."

Taking part in sign2sing will raise money for SignHealth to improve the health and wellbeing of deaf people throughout the UK.

Deaf children on average leave school with a low reading age and miss out on key messages about healthy relationships and by spoken words.

The organisation SignHealth run workshops for deaf children in schools, delivered by deaf people in sign language so children can understand what abuse is and what to do if they need help.

Susie Norbury, director of fundraising at SignHealth said: "Learning a few words and greeting signs in sign language is easy to do and great fun.

"The more that children learn to sign, the more included and less isolated deaf children will be.

"The money this even raises is vital so we can continue to give deaf people the chance of a life as healthy as their hearing friends."
