RUNNERS primed their spatulas and frying pans in anticipation of a popular annual fundraising event.

The Launchpad Pancake Race returns on March 5 and will see dozens of teams 'batter' it out to be the best.

Funds raised are used to help Launchpad Reading, a charity dedicated to offering aid to homeless people in the town.

Launchpad patron and X Factor finalist Danyl Johnson was on hand to get the races underway last year, with Blandy & Blandy taking home first place.

Teams take part in a series of heats and those who are successful will then compete in the final round.

Races start at 12.30pm on Broad Street and everyone is welcome to attend and provide support to the competitors.
